WUMC E-News | October 12
Dear ,
We've all heard of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Well, here's some science for you - Texas A&M Health Science Center demonstrated that FOMO can actually "instill anxiety and depression". I don't know about you, but to me that means FOMO = NO-NO!

Sure, I could try to work through my feelings and be satisfied with the activities I do participate in, or I could take the easy way out and make sure that I just don't miss out on anything exciting! Like the WUMC Annual Fall Festival being held Sunday October 15th from 4-6.

If I go to the festival, I don't have to be sad that I didn't get to see all of the adorable children going from station to station in the gym, participating in old-school carnival games and earning prizes and stickers. I don't have to miss out on seeing the big and little ones jump around in bounce houses designated for olders and youngers.

Man, I am glad I also will not be missing out on eating the deliciousness that is the Hot Dog King food truck or watching my children drown their cones of ice in rainbow colored syrup at the Kona Ice station while showing off their creations from The Balloon Lady.

I will also not have to feel bad that I didn't get to take advantage of a ready made Fall haybale scene where I can take adorable photos and avoid trying to Pinterest-up my front porch because my Fall photos are already done! And, as my neighbors could tell you, keeping my front porch away from Pinterest is a very good idea. Every heard the term "Pinterest Fail"?

As if all of that were not enough, I won't have to hear that I missed out talking to all of my friends and fellow WUMC-ers in complete sentences because my children are safely and happily occupied. And, I just might win a prize in the big prize draw! I hear that Honey Ham and Violet Crown gift cards are up for grabs, among other wonderful prizes...

Yep, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to take the easy way out and head over the WUMC Fall Festival next Sunday the 15th and just avoid the whole FOMO thing altogether. Feel like joining me? Unless of course you're not afraid of missing out...

Hurricane Relief

Our hurricane relief efforts are ongoing at WUMC. For the latest news, details about how you can be involved, and some great pictures of our crews at work, check our our website here.

On Friday October 13 at 7 pm in the WUMC Sanctuary, the Paula Wong Piano Academy is sponsoring a benefit concert by Austin musicians to aid young music students from Pasadena ISD who have been affected by Harvey. Thompson Middle School in Houston has lost nearly all of its 270 instruments in the historic flooding and most families are unable to purchase or rent new instruments due to outstanding costs and damages to their homes, cars, etc. A private fund has been set up and all proceeds with go directly toward the school's musical and educational needs.
